Linda Funke Johnson is one of only four Wake County attorneys called upon to serve as Guardian of the Estate when there is no suitable friend or family member willing or qualified to assume that responsibility after an adult is declared incompetent by the court. Our office provides representation at Special Proceedings for the appointment of Guardian of the Estate and Guardian of the Person, and we offer ongoing assistance throughout the term of the Guardianship, including inventory filing, annual and final accountings.
As a court-appointed Guardian of the Estate, Linda is responsible for the finances of over 45 minor children and legally declared incompetent adults throughout four counties. Duties include collection of assets and income, payment of bills and expenses, monitoring spending allowance, filing Medicaid and VA benefit applications, ensuring the ward has adequate health insurance coverage, and effectively handling any financial situation that may arise.
Because there are many different reasons and a variety of situations that can result in the need to establish legal guardianship, Linda and her team have fostered a true sense of compassion for all of their wards. They consider themselves blessed to have this opportunity to serve those in need in our community.
